Coyote Hills Park, Fremont California

A week or so ago we went for a short hike at Coyote Hills Park in the east bay. I had driven past this place hundreds of times and never stopped to take a look despite its intriguing appearance. I hit it up online and found they allow dogs on leash. "Perfect" thought I as our two medium sized dogs don't get out often enough. It is a rather odd place and I am curious to look into its history a bit more.

There is a shooting range on the top of the hill for the police dept. This is surrounded by fencing and bunker like structures. we had wanted to make a loop trail, but it didn't really work out well. We walked the trail along the bay north and this was good. Typical salt flat bay trail, but we saw some young hawks making bizarre noises, likely asking to be fed, and though adult in size were still sporting downy feathers. We came right up the hill and headed back south. Unfortunaly this didn't make a very good loop as the huge mining pit is in the way and the dirt road dumps you out on to sidewalkless street. Busy too, little dangerous. Then a frontage road with great mine trucks going to the pit. Eventually, we made it back to the bridge which crosses Hwy 84 at the toll plaza. Others like us had blazed a route up to the bridge by tearing down the fence.

Along the road we did have one aesthtic experience. Someone had dumped a crate of fish and the mummified remains are pictured below:
