Rites of Spring 2013

At the start
A big shout out to the Santana 22 "Pueo" for keeping us focused today.  The day could only have been better if there were a little more wind.  Sunny, relatively warm and smoothish water made for an awesome day.

Finishing behind Treasure Island
We were trying out the new jib and it has a definite learning curve.  It goes to weather great, but off the wind, on a reach, we struggled.  This was apparent on the reaching legs as we would give up ground to Pueo on each of these legs.  The women crewed boats started 10 minutes behind us and had just caught up by the time we finished, it looks like we lost a minute per mile over the 10.5nm course. Those are the faster S22's on the main bay and are dry sailed, but still...

Regardless,  By race day we had 9 boats is the shorthanded PHRF > 144 group.  Except for us and Pueo, all the other boats were in the 30 foot range.  We pulled off a great start and ran the race with little or no major screw ups.  We hit the line at speed and in clear air.  I had loaded the GPS with most of the marks and it was indispensable in getting us around the course.

The OYC committee did a great job getting the fleets off, great job guys!

Oh, did I mention we got first in our fleet?  Thanks to my one crew member Dave K. for sticking with it.
